Chairman’s Letter

FALL 2007

Brother Shipmates of The Newport Dealeys,

How quickly the Summer flies by…and each year it goes quicker…so our reunion in Philly is almost upon us. Philadelphia, in Greek, means The City of Brotherly Love. Although that’s not necessarily so during hockey season or football season it sure beckons our visit this September.

This onetime Capitol of the United States is where our Nation’s history took root; the Declaration of Independence was written and signed here, the U.S. Constitution was conceived, written and approved right here. This is where Ben Franklin discovered the harnessing of electricity, invented eyeglasses, the U.S. Postal Service and so many other wonderful things we take for granted today. Betsy Ross sewed our first flag here – we’ll see her house. This vibrant city doesn’t live in the past but certainly honors it greatly.

The NEWPORT DEALEY Sailor’s duty didn’t end with our DD214 in our hand, but continues today to carry-on the tradition of camaraderie and that special closeness we have with all with whom we have served this Great Nation. It is our duty to come together to celebrate by touring the many points of interest, hearing fascinating speakers that’ll share some history, remember those who’ve gone before us and, darnit…just have a lot of fun!

So, Brothers, sign-in anytime after noon on Thursday, September 27th, at the Ramada Inn Airport, 76 Industrial Highway, Essington, PA (Exit 9A off I-95) receive your surprising package of goodies, and start your engines for a great weekend. Bring your cameras, your appetite, your good attitude of patriotism, ship’s cover, uniform if it fits, and let’s dive into the history of the Cradle of LibertyPhiladelphia. Free 24-hour airport shuttle marked Ramada! God bless you with safe travel.

Serving you with Honor,

Jerry Skorch RM3
